Jewish immigrants came to America, some by choice and others by chance. This is the journey of three intertwined families on the road to the American dream. It is told through actual letters, written between them, starting in 1915 and continues through WWI and the Depression Years to 1943.
The letters in this Biography are well written and often humorous. Louis and Celia live in different states and meet through mutual friends. Their marriage hinges on Louis's ability to make a living. This is complicated by a business deal that goes sour.
This is not just the story of a small group of people. It is the story of many families who lived during this tumultuous time.

Wow. What a feat. This book obviously required a lot of research! While all the main characters have passed away, the author has brought them back to life through their correspondence. We get a good picture of their personalities and the age in which they lived. Most of the readers will not have lived during the depression or experienced the hardships of World War I. Through these letters and all the background material, it's possible to get a very personal view of that period of time. The letters themselves are endearing. The love story between Louis and Celia can bring tears to your eyes. Then, there are the letters between Louis and his partner Dave who, financially strapped, are trying to build a new business during the depression. They run into more than their share of problems due to finding themselves on the receiving end of some unscrupulous business practices. There is much to ponder here by comparing our current difficult economic times with other economic downturns, and seeing how those who went before us overcame obstacles. The ending should encourage us to weather the storm. A very good read.

Let Me Count the Ways letters of friendship love and deception edition by Perla Fox Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews
This book presents in a wonderful and unique way the family history of the Author, her parents, their colleagues and friends. Thru hundreds of letters it offers a delightful recounting of Jewish life in America. One can fill and associate himself with the sensitivity and considerations in family and personal relationships as expressed in the fluently written letters so uniquely integrated in this wonderful book. I am lucky to have read this book.
The letters in this book depict the intimate details of the courtship and early marriage of a great romance. Although this love, its struggles and challenges take place in the late 1920's, other letters begin as far back as 1915, including events during WW1. While it may seem romantically old fashioned to the lovers of today, both young and old will be fascinated by the similarities and the differences as they look back letter by letter.
Family letters collected over the years weave a life history of two Jewish families. They depict the close relationships and struggles of their families from year 1909 through the 1950's. Louis Grossberg, Perla Fox's Father, emerges as the "Linchpin" and major figure with his gifted turn of words. His love letters to his sweetheart, Celia, are a delightful "case in point". I believe that any number of immigrants and their families who sought opportunity at America's shores can relate to the stories that unfold.
'Let me count the ways' is an engaging chronicle. Centered on a lifelong romance, it details the joys and sorrows of a family's life with honesty and humor. This story documents the immigrant roots of several generations and extended family securing their future in America. Many personal letters throughout the book plus sections with photos and family trees contribute in achieving a well-rounded presentation.
As an only child, I read with delightful envy, Perla Fox's collection of sibling letters filled with love, devotion and anecdotal humor, as well as those of a young and growing love that lasted a lifetime. Anyone who values strong familial ties, and appreciates tidbits of historical flavor, will thoroughly enjoy this collection of memories spanning 2 centuries and 3 continents.
"Before there was e-mail, there was letter writing! This book is an important memoir and collection of hundreds of letters brilliantly edited which tell a great love story, and the remarkable personal history of a dedicated Jewish family in Washington. It offers a delightful recounting of Jewish life in America, filled with warmth and humor as the Grossbergs interact with the life of capitol city, Washington, DC. It is refreshing to read this book which sparkles with life and joy. A work of great historic value and artistic merit, it is a wonderful memoir, a classic!"

Remarkable look at life a century ago as told through ordinary letters written amongst family, friends, and colleagues. The reader can't help but to become engrossed in the lives of the characters--their hardships, success and of course love. This book reveals the lost art of letter writing. Quite simply a page turner You want to keep reading to find out what happens next.
